Sebastian
Inlet / Indialantic Hotels and Accommodations
Sebastian
Inlet is home to the magnificent Sebastian Inlet State Park.
A watery playground for a stretch of coast that extends from Cocoa
to Vero Beach, Sebastian Inlet State Park straddles both sides
of the inlet. On the south side, a 51-unit campground and boat
ramp offers a great place for a long term stay. Day visitors will
enjoy the north side of the park, where they can fish from the
jetty, swim in the calm-water lagoon, or surf what has been called "the best break in Florida." The park also boasts concessions,
a full-service marina, canoe and kayak rentals, ecotours, and
a museum.
Visiting
the Sebastian Inlet Area
To
the north of Sebastian Inlet lies Melbourne Beach. Two treasures
await the visitor to Melbourne Beach, its lovely oceanfront
and Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge. The former is awesome,
with brownish soft sand sloping dramatically to the water. The
latter is impressive, a protected habitat for sea turtles and
other endangered species. The wildlife preserve runs along a
20-mile stretch of coastline between Melbourne Beach and Wabasso
and is the most important nesting site for loggerhead turtles
in the Western Hemisphere
and second most important in the world. Astonishingly, 25% of
all loggerheads and 35% of all green sea turtles in the U.S.
nest on this brief stretch of shoreline.
